Mir Hossein Mousavi – We are Iranians and Proud of Our Heritage

Some gentlemen claim that they wish to run the world’s affairs. How exactly do they intend to accomplish such a task? With an Iran that has been weakened and unemployed Iranian workers and farmers that have been brought to their knees? To these gentlemen I say, if you are empathetic towards your country’s affairs, you too must surely suffer at the sight of Iranian farmers crumbling under pressure. Alas, our preoccupation today is with other matters as we turn a blind eye to the ongoings around us….

We are a nation with thousands of years of heritage and unlimited potential; a nation that is a part of a great civilization in a sensitive region. The pillars of our identity are based on our unity and grandeur. A strong and powerful Iran is in a position to help its friends; this position of strength is compromised when the essence of who we are is overshadowed by tangential issues that are contradictory to our national heritage and what it means to be an Iranian. Let us not behave in a manner that will render our passports internationally unacceptable and result in Iranians being insulted or mistreated abroad. Let us not be the cause of our nation’s low ranking in leading international economic indicators.

We are Iranians and as Iranians we are proud of our heritage. We will only achieve international success and realize our ideals if we stand firm in our identity.

دوستان می‌گویند می‌خواهیم دنیا را مدیریت کنیم، با چه ابزاری می‌خواهید این کار را انجام دهید؟ با ایران ضعیف؟ با کارگران و کشاورزان بیکار شده و به خاک سیاه نشسته؟ اگر برای کشور خود دل می‌سوزاندید، یقیناً رنج می‌بردید از این‌که کشاورز ایرانی به خاک سیاه بنشیند. متاسفانه امروز سر ما به جاهای دیگری گرم است و نمی‌بینیم…ما کشوری با چند هزار سال میراث تاریخی و ظرفیت‌های عظیم به عنوان جزئی از یک تمدن بزرگ در منطقه‌ای حساس هستیم. هویت ما پایه وحدت و عظمت ماست. ایران وقتی نیرومند باشد می‌تواند به دوستان خود کمک کند، نه زمانی که این ایرانیت تحت‌الشعاع مسایلی قرار بگیرد که تنها چیزی که در آنها مطرح نیست همین ایرانیت است… طوری عمل نکنیم که گذرنامه‌های ما در جهان مورد قبول نباشد، به ایرانی‌ها بی‌احترامی کنند و در شاخص‌های توسعه و اقتصاد در رتبه‌های پایین قرار داشته باشیم…ما ایرانی هستیم و به ایرانی بودن خود افتخار می‌کنیم. هیچ قدمی در جهان نمی‌توانیم برداریم و به ایده‌آل‌های خود نمی‌توانیم برسیم مگر این‌که بر روی هویت خود بایستیم.
