Let Us Lend a Helping Hand to Two Innocent, Defenseless Iranian Refugees Who Need Our Support – By Saeid Pourheydar

July 8th, 2011 -He spent months in solitary confinement in the IRGC Ward 2A at Evin prison.  If he had not managed to flee, he would have at minimum received a 20 year prison sentence, if not the death penalty.  My phone rang last night. “Saeid are you home? Do you have dinner? Can we come over?” He and his wife had eaten nothing but sunny side up eggs for two days and that without any bread…!

He left all his possessions in Iran, fleeing the country at night in order to save his life.  He has nothing left, for he used the small apartment he had painstakingly bought with so many loans as bail to get out of prison.  He also lost his parents years ago during the war [8 year Iran-Iraq war]. For the past 15 months, his only means of support for such items as rent, clothing, food, etc. had come from other refugees who find themselves in a slightly better predicament.

He is a man of pride and principle. My heart ached as I watched the tears rolling down his face last night…  He is unable to work for asylum seekers in Turkey are not allowed to work without a work permit.  He sometimes works illegally, but this dear friend is unable to perform physically challenging jobs for his shoulders were repeatedly dislocated by force while he was incarcerated at the IRGC Ward 2A at Evin and as a result, he is no longer able to carry anything heavier than 5 kilos.

He and his wife turn to God now for hope.  Though they have no money to their name and their spirit has been broken, they remain hopeful, despite the fact that the few individuals who helped them on occasion will be leaving Turkey in the next few days.

It was only after my continuous insistence that these beloved friends agreed to allow me to write about their plight, with the hope that I would find someone willing to assist them.  We must not forget the countless, faceless soldiers of this movement. They have made so many sacrifices and risked their lives and today they turn to us for support… Let us stand with them during this time of need…

In the event that you wish to support these compatriots in need and would like to contact them directly either by phone or email, please send me an email at saeed.pourheydar@gmail.com.

Yours humbly

by Saeid Pourheydar on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 7:30am
