BREAKING NEWS – Incarcerated Dissident & Blogger Mehdi Khazali Refuses to Drink Water On the 57th Day of His Hunger Strike

March 5th, 2012  – [Kaleme] Following 57 days of a hunger strike, Mehdi Khazali incarcerated reformist, war veteran, blogger and vocal critic of the ruling government launches a dry hunger strike protesting the lack of responsibility by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran

According to reports by Kaleme, Khazali was transferred to solitary confinement in Evin prison’s security ward 209 [under the supervision of the Intelligence Ministry] 8 days ago.  He was taken to court yesterday and in protest to the continuedlawlessness and violent behavior of the Ministry of Intelligence prison guards, Khazali decided to launch a dry hunger strike stating that he will refuse to drink any water until his civil and legal rights have been reinstated.

Previously, Dr. Khazali was taken to Taleghani hospital after suffering a heart attack at Evin, then transferred after one day to Bani Hashem hospital under the supervision of the Ministry of Intelligence and shortly after transferred back to Evin prison despite his dire physical condition and against the recommendation of the hospital physicians and staff.

In his web blog, Dr. Khazali described his hunger strike as a last resort of an innocent man who has no one to turn to and whose cries have been ignored.  Khazali also stated that he had asked the permission of 4 Grand Ayatollahs before launching his hunger strike.

It is worth mentioning that Khazali was violently arrested on January 9th, 2012 and launched his hunger strike on the first day of his incarceration, protesting the violent behavior of security agents during his arrest and the lawlessness of the Judiciary in Iran.

مهدی خزعلی، رزمنده دوران دفاع مقدس و نویسنده منتقد، پس از ۵۷ روز اعتصاب غذا و تداوم بی توجهی مسئولان، دست به اعتصاب غذای خشک زد.

به گزارش کلمه، مهدی خزعلی که از هشت روز پیش به سلول انفرادی در بند امنیتی ۲۰۹ زندان اوین منتقل شده بود روز گذشته که برای مطالعه حکم خود به دادگاه منتقل شده بود در اعتراض به تداوم بی قانونی ها و رفتارهای خشن زندانبانان وزارت اطلاعات دست به اعتصاب خشک زده و اعلام کرده است تا احیای آیین دادرسی مدنی و حقوق از دست رفته از این پس لب به آب هم نخواهد زد.

پیش تر مهدی خزعلی بر اثر حمله قلبی به بیمارستان طالقانی منتقل شده بود که پس از یک روز توسط نیروهای امنیتی به بیمارستان بنی هاشم زیر نظر وزارت اطلاعات منتقل شده و پیش از بهبودی به زندان اوین بازگردانده شده بود.

مهدی خزعلی در متنی در وبلاگ خود اعتصاب غذا را آخرین سلاح مظلوم دانسته بود در زمانی که پناهی ندارد و فریادش به جایی نمیرسد و گفته بود که برای اعتصاب غذای خود از ۴ مرجع تقلید اذن گرفته است.

این نویسنده منتقد که در تاریخ توسط نیروهای امنیتی همراه با خشونت دستگیر شد در اعتراض به رفتار خشونت آمیز نیروهای امنیتی در هنگام بازداشت و رفتارهای غیرقانونی سیستم قضایی از همان روز اول، دست به اعتصاب غذا زد.

Mehdi Khazali to Prison Authorities:”In the Event of my Death, I Ask That My Autopsy Be Performed by an International Entity”

February 22nd, 2012 [Kaleme]  In a letter addressed to prison authorities at Evin prison, Dr. Mehdi Khazali has announced that in the event that he dies while in prison and as a result of his hunger strike any autopsy or forensic examination take place only at the hand of medical examiners associated with International Organizations.

In this letter, Dr. Khazli reportedly points to the martyrdom of Hoda Saber while at Evin and the autopsy that took place at the time. Hoda Saber, journalist and political activist arrested after the 2009 presidential elections died at Evin prison after he launched a hunger strike protesting the martyrdom of Haleh Sahabi.  The day before he died, security agents finally transferred Saber to Modares Hospital after he suffered a stroke. Saber died because he did not receive adequate and timely medical attention.

At the time, 64 political prisoners at Evin wrote a letter bearing witness to the fact that martyr Hoda Saber was transferred to Evin’s infirmary on the 8th day of his hunger strike, by individuals who were either security agents or agents of the Ministry of Intelligence. Furthermore, the aforementioned prisoners testified that while at the infirmary, Saber was beaten severely.

The doctors at Modares hospital believe that Hoda Saber died as a result of his hunger strike and negligence by prison officials at Evin who refused to transfer him to a hospital in a timely manner.  It goes without saying that the judicial authorities including the Attorney General have never launched an inquiry into Hoda Saber’s death.

مهدی خزعلی گفته است در صورت جان باختن من مقامات پزشکی سازمان ملل مرا کالبد شکافی کنند.

به گزارش خبرنگار کلمه، مهدی خزعلی با نگارش نامه ای به مسئولان زندان اوین اعلام کرده است، درصورت جان باختنش در ادامه اعتصاب غذا، کالبد شکافی و معاینات پزشکی قانونی زندان را قبول ندارد و جسدش تنها باید توسط پزشکان اعزامی از سوی مجامع بین المللی، کالبد شکافی گردد.

 

وی در این نامه به جریان شهادت هدی صابر و کالبد شکافی وی نیز اشاره کرد.

رضا هدی صابر روزنامه نگار و فعال سیاسی که از زندانیان پس از انتخابات بود خردادماه سال جاری و در پی اعتصاب غذا در اعتراض به شهادت هاله سحابی  و حمله قلبی درگذشت.

 

ماموران یک روز پیش از شهادت وی را به دلیل عارضه قلبی ناشی از اعتصاب غذا از زندان اوین به بیمارستان مدرس منتقل می کنند، اما سنگینی آسیب‌ قلبی چنان بوده که وی تحمل این آسیب را نداشته و جان باخت.

 

۶۴ زندانی سیاسی بند ۳۵۰ زندان اوین همان زمان با ارسال شهادت نامه ای، شهادت دادند که شهید هدی صابر در هشتمین روز اعتصاب غذای خود در بهداری زندان اوین از سوی مامورانی که حدس می زنند ماموران امنیتی و اطلاعاتی بوده اند، به شدت مورد ضرب و شتم قرار گرفته است. آنها شرایط بد جسمانی وی را از نزدیک شاهد بوده اند.

 

پزشکان بیمارستان مدرس معتقدند علت مرگ وی علاوه بر اعتصاب غذا سهل انگاری مقامات زندان در انتقال به موقع به بیمارستان بوده است. اما مقامات قضایی کشور از جمله دادستان کل کشور هموار هیچ گاه به این موضوع نپرداختند

The Coordination Council Warns: Responsibility for the Lives of Political Prisoners Lies with the Highest Ranking Officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran

February 21st, 2012 – [Kaleme] In a statement published today, while condemning the gross violations of the basic human rights of Iranian citizens, Ardeshir Amir Armomand, the spokesperson for the Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope warned that the responsibility for the health and lives of all incarcerated political activists and in particular Dr. Mehdi Khazali and other political prisoners behind bars currently deprived of medical care and in dire physical condition,  lays with the highest ranking officials within the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The complete content of the statement as provided to Kaleme is as follows:

We are currently experiencing a climate in which the Intelligence Ministry and Security forces rather than focusing on our national interests and the national security of our nation, have instead placed all their energy on the suppression of our freedom fighters and the most honorable children of our land, creating false legal cases against them.  Furthermore, the judges responsible for the cases against these honorable and Green democracy seeking activists behind bars are under direct orders of the officials of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security forces and void of all judicial independence. It goes without saying that the health and lives of all incarcerated political activists and in particular Dr. Mehdi Khazali and other political prisoners behind bars currently deprived of medical care and in dire physical condition,  lays with the highest ranking officials within the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The ruling establishment is sadly mistaken if they think that by sealing the door to the residence and library of the late Ayatollah Montazeri and imposing illegal restrictions on his son, they will be able to silence the message of freedom and justice of this honorable source of emulation.  This type of behavior is undoubtedly a sign of the weakness rather than the strength of the ruling establishment.

When the ruling establishment denies the citizens of Iran the right to protest albeit peacefully and silently,  a right established both in internationally accepted declarations and in article 27 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, engaging in the illegal arrest of citizens participating in such protests, the claim that [the upcoming parliamentary] elections will be free and fair is nothing but a gross  lie.

While condemning the gross violations of the basic human rights of Iranian citizens, the Coordination Council for the Green Path of Hope warns the authoritarian ruling establishment that denying the truth, insisting on lies, repeated oppression, violence and lawlessness will only lead to further escalation of the crisis both domestically and internationally.

شورای هماهنگی راه سبز امید در بیانیه ای ضمن محکوم کردن نقض فاحش حقوق اولیه شهروندان ایرانی، هشدار داده است که مسئولیت جان و سلامتی کلیه فعالان سیاسی در بند، بویژه آقای مهدی خزعلی و سایر اسیرانی که محروم از مراقبت های پزشکی لازم در وضعیت جسمانی خطرناک قرار دارند، بر عهده عالیترین مقامات حکومتی می باشد.

اردشیر امیر ارجمند، سخنگوی شورای هماهنگی سبز امید در این بیانیه تاکید کرده است خیالی بس باطل است که با پلمب کردن کتابخانه و درب خانه مرحوم حضرت آیت الله العظمی منتظری و ایجاد محدودیتهای غیر قانونی برای فرزند ایشان، بتوان پیام حق طلبانه آن مرجع حکیم را در یاد و خاطره شیفتگان عدالت و آزادی به فراموشی سپرد. قطعا این گونه اعمال نشان از ضعف حاکمان است و نه قدرت آنها.

در حالی که نیروهای اطلاعاتی و امنیتی، بجای حفاظت و حراست از منافع و امنیت ملی کشور، تمام هم و انرژی خود را صرف سرکوب آزادیخواهان و صادق ترین فرزندان ایران زمین و پرونده سازی های وقیحانه علیه آنها می نمایند و قضاتی که مسئول رسیدگی به پرونده اسیران سرفراز جنبش سبز و دموکراسی خواهی مردم ایران هستند تحت دستور مستقیم مقامات اطلاعاتی و امنیتی عمل کرده و فاقد هر گونه استقلال قضایی می باشند، بدیهی است که مسئولیت جان و سلامتی کلیه فعالان سیاسی در بند، بویژه آقای مهدی خزعلی و سایر اسیرانی که محروم از مراقبت های پزشکی لازم در وضعیت جسمانی خطرناک قرار دارند، بر عهده عالیترین مقامات حکومتی می باشد.

در شرایطی که اقتدار گرایان حاکم بر کشور اعمال حق بر تظاهرات، مذکور در اسناد جهانی حقوق بشر و همچنین اصل ۲۷ قانون اساسی جموری اسلامی را، در ساده ترین و مسالمت امیز شکل ان که تجمعات سکوت است، بر نمی تابند و اقدام به دستگیری و رفتاهای غیر قانونی با متهمان به شرکت در ان میکنند، ادعای برگزاری انتخاباتی ازاد و منصفانه دروغی بزرگ است.

شورای هماهنگی راه سبز امید، ضمن محکوم کردن نقض فاحش حقوق اولیه شهروندان ایرانی، به حکمرانان متفرعن هشدار می دهد که انکار واقعیت ها و اصرار بر دروغ، سرکوب، خشونت و بی قانونی اثری جز تشدید شرایط بحرانی کشور در عرصه داخلی و بین المللی را بدنبال نخواهد داشت.

BREAKING NEWS – Mehdi Khazali Transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence’s Ghamare Bani Hashem Hospital

February 19th 2012 – [Kaleme] – According to the latest reports, dissident writer and government critic Dr. Mehdi Khazali who launched a hunger strike 44 days ago, was transferred to Ghamare Bani Hashem hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence in the middle of the night last night.

According to the same reports, security forces removed Dr. Khazali from Taleghani hospital  at 2:00 AM last night without the consent of the hospital physicians and personnel.  He was later transferred by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence to Ghamare Bani Hashem hospital, affiliated with the Ministry of intelligence.

به گزارش خبرنگار کلمه، ماموران امنیتی ساعت دو نیمه شب گذشته مهدی خزعلی را از بیمارستان طالقانی خارج کرده بودند.

در همین حال بنابه گزارش رسیده، مهدی خزعلی توسط ماموران وزارت اطلاعات به بیمارستان قمر بنی هاشم وابسته به این وزارتخانه منتقل شده است. این انتقال بدون اجازه پزشکان معالج صورت گرفته است.

BREAKING NEWS – Dr. Mehdi Khazali Removed From Taleghani Hosptial By Security Forces in the Middle of the Night

February 18th, 2012 – [Kaleme].  According to reports received by Kaleme, dissident blogger and government critic Dr. Mehdi Khazali who was transferred to Taleghani hospital after suffering a heart attack on the 43rd day of his hunger strike, was taken away from Taleghani hospital by security forces at 2:00am today.

This latest act by security forces took place without the consent of the hospital physicians.  The hospital staff who were shocked by the events that transpired had no control over the actions by the security forces and had recourse but to watch the events unfold.

An eyewitness at the hospital told Kaleme: “Given the physical condition of this political prisoner following 43 days of a hunger strike, his  life is in undoubtedly in danger for he requires medical attention.”

It is worth mentioning that the security forces in question provided no explanation for this transfer.  Despite his physical weakness and extreme weight loss, Dr. Khazali has refused to break his now 44 day hunger strike.  Hospital personnel  did however described this honorable fighter’s spirits as strong.

چکیده :نیرو های امنیتی در ساعت دو نیمه شب به بیمارستان طالقانی مراجعه کرده و دکتر مهدی خزعلی به مکان نامعلومی منتقل کردند. این اقدام نیروهای امنیتی بدون اجازه و موافقت پزشکان بیمارستان صورت گرفته است. پرسنل بیمارستان که از این عمل شوکه شده بودند، در مقابل نیروهای امنیتی قادر به هیچ واکنشی نبودند و نظاره گر بودند. …

 

 

دکتر مهدی خزعلی ساعت دو نیمه شب توسط نیروهای امنیتی از بیمارستان طالقانی برده شد.

 

به گزارش رسیده به کلمه از بیمارستان طالقانی، نیرو های امنیتی در ساعت ۲ نیمه شب به بیمارستان طالقانی مراجعه کرده و دکتر مهدی خزعلی را با خود بردند.

 

این اقدام نیروهای امنیتی بدون اجازه و موافقت پزشکان بیمارستان صورت گرفته است. پرسنل بیمارستان که از این عمل شوکه شده بودند، در مقابل نیروهای امنیتی قادر به هیچ واکنشی نبودند و نظاره گر بودند.

 

یکی از منابع بیمارستانی که شاهد این ماجرا بوده است به کلمه گفت: با توجه به شرایط جسمی این زندانی سیاسی پس از ۴۳ روز اعتصاب غذا، جان دکتر خزعلی در خطر است و او به مراقبت های پزشکی نیاز دارد.

 

ماموران توضیحی برای این انتقال شبانه نداده اند.

 

مهدی خزعلی در حالی که بشدت کاهش وزن داشته و دچار ضعف مفرط شده است، حاضر به شکستن اعتصاب خود نیست. پرسنل بیمارستان از روحیه بالای این رزمنده خیبر خبر داده بودند.

BREAKING NEWS – Incarcerated Dissident Dr. Mehdi Khazali Suffers a Heart Attack on the 40th Day of His Hunger Strike

February 17th, 2012 – [Kaleme] Incarcerated dissident critical of the government, Dr. Mehdi Khazali was reportedly transferred to Taleghani hospital a few hours ago after suffering a heart attack. 

According to reports by Kaleme, Dr. Khazali who was on the 40th day of his hunger strike was transferred to Evin prison’s infirmary at 9:00pm as a result of heart problems.  Upon completion of a electrocardiograph prison doctors determined that his condition was critical and he was subsequently transferred to the CCU (Coronary Care Unit) at Taleghani hospital.

According to received reports, Dr. Khazali has vowed to continue his hunger strike until justice has been served.  Recently Dr. Khazali’s son had expressed grave concern for his father’s well being as a result of his lengthy hunger strike and the lack of news regarding his condition stating: ” We know that he will not break his hunger strike. There is nothing we can do but pray. Knowing our father and the manner in which he was arrested, we know that he will continue to refuse to eat”

Dr. Khazali, author and vocal critic of the ruling government and a veteran of the holy war against Iraq has refused to break his hunger strike despite his weakening condition and repeated requests by friends, family members and political activists. He launched his hunger strike immediately after being incarcerated protesting his imprisonment and the manner in which he was arrested.   In the past month, despite having been transferred to the infirmary at Evin prison on various occasions as a result of his deteriorating physical condition, Dr. Khazali vowed to continue with his hunger strike stating that he had prepared himself for martyrdom.

Dr. Khazali was sentenced to 14 years prison in the Borazjan, an additional 10 years exile in Borazjan upon completion of his 14 year prison sentence and 90 lashings.

In a letter addressed to his wife published only hours ago from inside Evin prison Mehdi Khazali stated: “It is extremely difficult for a wife and child to watch the voluntary, slow death of a loved one.  As I wrote you this letter, reflecting upon the misfortunes I have imposed upon you, I have shed endless tears.”

It is worth mentioning that on the 37th day of his hunger strike, in an open letter addressed to Ahmad Montazeri (the son of late Ayatollah Montazeri) Dr. Khazali described the behavior of the interrogators and judges towards the prisoners at Evin’s ward 350 stating: “Now I understand the outcries of your late father. May God bless his soul and may God remove this injustice from its root. These are but examples of the pain and sufferings inflicted upon us. There is much more painful things to speak about, but there is not enough room in this short letter for me to explain them all. Isn’t the pain and sorrow I have described enough justification for me to die? Didn’t they remove the thorn from the foot of the Jewish woman (referring to a story about Imam Ali)”

In a letter addressed to the wives of Martyr Bakeri and Martyr Hemat who had requested that he break his hunger strike, Dr. Khazali also wrote: ” Before I die mourning for the lost values of the Revolution, please allow me to sacrifice my life, to restore the pure values of the Islamic Revolution, so I too may have a place amongst the martyrs.”

چکیده :مهدی خزعلی که بیش از 40 روز است در اعتصاب غذا به سر می برد ساعت 9 شب به دلیل بروز مشکل قلبی به بهداری اوین منتقل شد که پس از گرفتن نوار قلب پزشکان متوجه اوضاع وی وخیم شده و به سرعت مهدی خزعلی را به بیمارستان طالقانی اعزام کردند. …

مهدی خزعلی ساعاتی پیش و در پی حمله ی قلبی به بیمارستان طالقانی منتقل شد.

به گزارش خبرنگار کلمه، مهدی خزعلی که بیش از ۴۰ روز است در اعتصاب غذا به سر می برد ساعت ۹ شب به دلیل بروز مشکل قلبی به بهداری اوین منتقل شد که پس از گرفتن نوار قلب پزشکان متوجه اوضاع وی وخیم شده و به سرعت مهدی خزعلی را به بخش سی سی یو بیمارستان طالقانی اعزام کردند.

بر اساس این گزارش، مهدی خزعلی همچنان اعلام کرده است که اعتصاب غذای خود را نخواهند شکست و تا احقاق حق خواهد ایستاد.

پیش از این پسر مهدی خرعلی با ابراز نگرانی از طولانی شدن اعتصاب غذای پدرش و بی خبری از او به کلمه گفته بود: می دانیم که از اعتصاب غذا کوتاه نمی آیند، ما هم هیچ کاری از دستمان بر نمی آید و فقط در این راه می توانیم دعا کنیم چون مثل دفعه های قبل گفته اند که آنجا غذا نخواهند خورد.

مهدی خزعلی رزمنده دوران دفاع مقدس و نویسنده منتقد در اثر اعتصاب غذا، بسیار ضعیف شده و بر خلاف درخواست هم بندیان و دوستان و خانواده و فعالان سیاسی حاضر به پایان دادن به اعتصاب غذای خود نیست.

وی بلافاصله پس از بازداشت در اعتراض به روند غیرقانونی بازداشت و نگهداری دست به اعتصاب زد تاکنون چندین بار بر اثر اعتصاب و نوسان شدید فشار، تغییر رنگ صورت و بی حالی مفرط به بهداری اوین منتقل شده اما همچنان می گوید که خود را برای شهادت آماده کرده است و اعتصاب خود را نخواهد شکست.

مهدی خزعلی به چهارده سال حبس در شهرستان برازجان و بعد از اتمام دوره محکومیت، به ده سال اقامت اجباری در این شهرستان و نود ضربه شلاق محکوم شده است.

مهدی خزعلی در نامه‌ای از درون زندان که ساعاتی پیش منتشر شد، خطاب به همسرش نوشته بود: سخت است مشاهده سوگواری همسر و فرزندان در مرگ تدریجی و ارادی خویش، اینک که این سطور را برایت می‌نگارم درخلوت زاغه خویش فرو رفته و بر مصائب شما سخت گریسته‌ام دیگر جای خشکی بر بالشت باقی نمانده است و دستمال اشک کفاف این چشمه چشمه جاری نمی‌کند.

مهدی خزعلی همچنین در ۳۷ امین روز اعتصاب خود در نامه ای به احمد منتظری با شرح آنچه این روزها از رفتار بازجویان و قاضی های دادگاه ها در بند ۳۵۰ اوین دیده است، با بیان اینکه حال می‌فهمم که والد معظم شما از چه فریاد می‌زد، خدایش رحمت کند و ریشه این ظلم را بکند، آورده بود: این‌ها نمونه‌هایی از درد‌های ماست و بسیاری دردهای ناگفتنی دیگر دارم که در این مختصر

نگنجد! حال جا دارد که در این همه درد بمیرم؟ آیا هنوز خلخال از پای پیرزن یهودی در نیاورده‌اند؟

این زندانی سیاسی پیشتر در پیامی خطاب به همسر شهید باکری، همسر شهید همت و محمد نوریزاد گفته بود: بگذارید قبل از اینکه در سوگ ارزش ها دق کنم برای احیای ارزش های ناب انقلاب اسلامی جان خویش فدا کرده و جایی برای خویش در خیل شهیدان باز کنم
